Fresh Garden Lettuce for Salads

Today I am making a salad with fresh lettuce from my garden.

I start by picking individual leaves from my garden. You can wash the lettuce within minutes after picking. Rinse the leaves in cold water. You could use a salad spinner or place on clean paper towels. Arrange cleaned lettuce leaves in a single layer, and top with a second paper towel. Pat gently to remove excess water. Then place lettuce in a plastic bag to put in the refrigerator.

I like to wait at least a couple hours before cutting or tearing my lettuce leaves until they have been given time to crisp up in the fridge. After the lettuce has been cleaned and chilled you can now come up with an idea for a salad. The salad we are suggesting today is served as a main course: Shrimp and Avocado Salad.
