TEACUP TUESDAY
The Gentle History of
Ivory Teacups with Silver Rims
A TEACUP TUESDAY STORY
There is something quietly graceful about an ivory teacup
with a silver rim. Understated, timeless, and calm-it has a
way of making any moment feel a little more special.
Cream-colored china has been cherished for generations
because it speaks of warmth, hospitality, and home. Ivory
is soft and welcoming, a gentle backdrop for laughter,
conversation, and the beauty of simple pleasures.
The silver rim adds a touch of elegance-just enough
shine to catch the light and elevate the everyday. It is a
reminder that beauty doesn't have to be loud to be lasting.
At Bluejean Corner, we believe a lovely table is more
than what's on it. It's about how we welcome others with
kindness, how we listen well, and how we create space for
friendship to grow.
As we gather for Teacup Tuesday, may our homes be
places of grace, our hearts be full of gratitude, and our
tables be set for love-reflecting the goodness of God in
all we do.
" Beautiful tables often
begin with a simple cup,
a kind invitation, and time
shared with a friend.

TEACUP TUESDAY
From Creamware to Fine China
HOW THE TEA TABLE GREW MORE REFINED
Afternoon tea began as a pause in the day, but it grew
into something more-an expression of social grace.
The tea table became a setting for conversation,
laughter, and the quiet art of making others feel
welcome and at ease.
In the late 18th century, potter Josiah Wedgwood
helped popularize creamware-stronger, smoother,
and more affordable than earlier ceramics.
Its warm ivory tone and gentle sheen brought
refinement within reach of many homes.
In the early 19th century, Josiah Spode perfected
fine bone china-lighter, whiter, and beautifully
translucent. His innovations set a new standard
for elegance and helped elevate the everyday
tea table to something truly special.
Other makers, like Royal Doulton and
Haviland Limoges, added their own artistry
and refinement. Each piece carried the same
purpose: to honor the guest and make
ordinary moments feel unforgettable.
Ivory or cream china became beloved for its
timeless beauty. When paired with fresh flowers,
linen, and silver, these teacups turned hospitality
into an occasion of welcome and warmth-
a tradition that still speaks to the heart today.
"The softest tables
often leave the sweetest memories."

Lenox, Noritake, and
the Beauty of the Silver Rim
WHY METALLIC TRIM BECAME SO BELOVED
Lenox, founded in Trenton, New Jersey, became
beloved for its refined ivory china and timeless
designs. Patterns like Solitaire set a standard of
elegance that continues to be treasured today.
Noritake, with its Japanese craftsmanship and
attention to detail, also earned a place in our
hearts. Their teacups are known for both beauty
and balance-delicate, yet made for everyday
moments of grace.
Many silver rims you see on vintage china are
actually platinum trim. Platinum offers a soft,
luminous finish that resists tarnish and keeps
its quiet shine for years.
The cool metallic edge beautifully complements
the warm ivory body, creating a subtle contrast
that feels both fresh and timeless.
Whether silver or platinum, the trim gives
each teacup a sense of polish and poise-
elevating the simple act of tea into something
beautiful, graceful, and special without ever
feeling busy.
"A shining rim and a gentle cup
can make even an ordinary
afternoon feel special."

Why We Set a Beautiful Table
SHARING LOVE, KINDNESS, FRIENDSHIP, AND GOD'S GOODNESS
The story of ivory teacups is also the story of hospitality. It
began with a desire to create beauty and has grown into a
tradition that opens our hearts and our homes.
A graceful place setting says, "You matter." It helps our
friends feel special and comfortable, letting them know
they are seen, valued, and loved.
Conversation flows more freely around a cup of tea.
Memories are shared, laughter is heard, and friendship
blossoms in the gentle rhythm of afternoon tea.
Teacup Tuesday at Bluejean Corner is about welcoming,
honoring, and loving others. Each table set with care is a
reminder that everyone has a place and belongs.
Most of all, we believe God plays an important role in
our lives. As we sit together, we invite Him into our
moments-thanking Him for His goodness and asking
Him to bless our time with grace, kindness, and
remembrance.
"Be kindly affectioned one
to another with brotherly love;
in honour preferring one another.

May every Teacup Tuesday be a gentle
invitation to love others well.
